Topic: Captiva Island Yacht Club Post Hurricane Milton

              Hi Mr. Leyshon,

The clubhouse is open and fully operational for dining.  However, our docks are completely closed.   We are waiting for engineers to come inspect them next week.  From there, the club will be putting together a plan for repair.  We are hoping that the docks will be functional by early December, but as of now we do not have an actual date.  Please check back with us at the end of November to see what progress has been made.

Thank you for reaching out!  We hope to welcome you back soon!

Topic: FCYC Club post Hurricanes reports.

These are the first 11 responses I’ve received.
                Hurricane Damage Reports:
It is possible that you sent me a report and I missed it.  That does happen.

                Key Biscayne Yacht Club

I’m happy to report that KBYC suffered no damage and is operating normally.

                Naples Sailing and Yacht Club

Naples Sailing and Yacht Club has sustained no damages, and the marina and dining services are fully operational.

                Bruce Harris

                Carlouel Yacht Club

Thanks for your email. Unfortunately, the damage to Carlouel from the recent hurricanes and flooding was extensive. All facilities remain closed at this time. We are still working through the process of mitigation and dry out, so predicting the estimated timeframe for return of dining, pool and/or marina access is difficult to pin down at this time. I expect we’ll have more information to share at the FCYC meeting in Key Biscayne on 11/9/24.

                Best regards.

Like many clubs along the West Coast, SPYC has been impacted by Hurricanes Helene and Milton.  As a result, we will not be accepting reciprocal club members through at least November 1, 2024.  At that time, we will reevaluate our status.

Please share this update with your members, and thank you for your understanding during this time.

On Monday and Tuesday, we will began removing carpets from the lower level of the club, which sustained water damage during Hurricane Helene.

Currently, our downtown clubhouse is still without three-phase power, which is needed to operate kitchen equipment, air conditioning, elevators, and lighting throughout the building. Unfortunately, the transformer responsible for this power sustained an electrical fire on Friday. We are working closely with Duke Energy to assess the damage and develop a plan to restore power to both the transformer and the club.

Our fixed docks had some power pedestals damaged.  We estimate a four-foot storm surge with Helene and a six-foot surge with Milton.  The floating docks performed as advertised.  We had no structural damage to our club.  All our operations, including dining and our marina are back to normal function.  I have not heard of any complications on the Okeechobee Waterway.

                    The Field Club

The Field Club did not fare well with the recent storms , has been severely damaged and is closed. The marina had the most damage with many docks , including the fuel dock, and boats destroyed. We will contact you when things settle down and we get a better assessment of our situation. I am sure other clubs are doing the same. For now could you communicate that we are closed and the marina is not available.
                    Thanks,
                    Steve Duerwachter,  Director

                    Tampa Yacht & Country Club

TYCC sustained significant damage from Hurricanes Helene and Milton.   These two storms brought water into the club, resulting in the need to remove much of the flooring throughout the main clubhouse. The Pavilion, pool, Telltale Pool Bar, and Dockmaster’s Office were heavily impacted by the rising waters. The marina also saw significant destruction, with several docks, finger piers, plumbing, and electrical conduits torn apart.

Though the tennis and fitness facilities weathered Helene’s fury with minimal impact, Milton brought his own devastation, damaging lighting, netting, and the courts with torrential rain and winds. Our equestrian facilities also suffered considerable damage, but thankfully, all of its residents were safely relocated to secure facilities ahead of both storms.

The club’s foresight to procure foul weather mitigation systems saved us from a much worse outcome. = Immediately following both storms, our contracted disaster recovery team, staff, and board members were on site, working to begin the thorough and necessary remediation process.

                    Davis Island Yacht Club

Davis Island Yacht Club held up extremely well during Hurricane Milton.  The clubhouse, pool restrooms, and sail pavilion had little or no damage.  B and C docks are in good condition.  The road to the club is safe to navigate.  Water has been restored to the clubhouse but not the docks.

                    Halifax River Yacht Club

Halifax River Yacht Club suffered no damage.

                    Open for business.

                    P/C Wayne Stewart,  FCYC Director

                    Coral Ridge Yacht Club

Coral Ridge had no damages. Fully operational.

                    Jim Williams, Director

                    Oyster Bay Yacht Club

Oyster Bay Yacht Club was not damaged by either Helene or Milton.  All operations are in good working readiness.

                    Donald C. Jones,  Director

                    Bradenton Yacht Club

A message from Bradenton Yacht Club:

Our Dining is fully operational and we welcome FCYC Clubs. Our pool is also open.

Unfortunately, Bradenton Yacht Club’s Grounds, Marina, Transient wall, and tennis courts have sustained extensive damage.  Until further notice, we cannot accommodate reciprocity via arrival by boat as we have no power to our Longwall, as well as our Dockmaster’s Office is no longer operational. We thank you in advance for your patience as we work to rebuild these areas.

                    Kind Regards,

                    Topic: Venice Yacht Club Update

Venice YC has made a lot of progress the last week. The docks are getting repaired and are almost completed and the dock electric should be up within the week. Once I get my computer and phones back, I will be able to communicate better and touch base. The club should also be back open fully within the next week or so. The club and marine both got hit pretty good with the last two storms, but we are working hard to get everything back up and running. The tiki opened tonight so we are making progress!

                    Thanks,

                    Jeff Towers

Topic: FCYC Cruise to Naples Yacht Club Recap

I just completed the FCYC meetings and events at Naples Yacht Club. The FCYC meeting, which is held every two months, went well. We had 8 (16 people) at the meeting via boat.  We had an additional 8 joining via car. The Isles Yacht Club received the awards for the most boats in attendance at the event. Most boats departed on Sunday. The wind kicked up out of the west and provided us with a rough ride home.
